There will be an Arbor Day Celebration by planting a tree at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, which is visited by over sixty thousand people annually. The Tuckaleechee Garden Club is organizing the celebration and the planting of a Water Oak, a heritage oak and member of the red oak family, as part of the Kids Take Over the Museum event occurring at the Heritage Center. Children will participate in the tree planting and learn about the importance and benefits of trees. A proclamation by the city vice mayor will be read during the event. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 10th at 11:00 am, and the public is invited to attend. There is a $20 fee per car for admission to the Kids Take Over the Museum event. Free parking at 11:00 for those attending only the Arbor Day Tree Planting. All proceeds will benefit children's education at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center.
