CITY OF TOWNSEND COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES On April 15th, 2008 |

Attend: Attending the meeting were Mayor Shannon Skidmore; Commissioners Ron Palewski, Charles Tippitt and David Wietlisbach. Also, Police Chief Ron Suttles, Fire Chief Don Stallions, Gwen Jordan, Shelia Moss, as well as several other community members. Pledge: Mayor Skidmore opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes for the March 18, 2008 Commission Meeting was made by Commissioner Palewski and a second was made by Commissioner Tippett. The minutes passed with 4 yea votes. Finance Report: Recorder Gwen Jordan gave a financial review. Commissioner Wietlisbach made a motion to approve the financial report and Commissioner Tippett seconded the motion. The financial report passed with 4 yea votes Police Report: Chief Suttles stated that the new police cruiser had been ordered and that the only things missing were a light bar and power source. He stated that this was a basic vehicle with a purchase price of $22,500 and that he thought he would be within budget to outfit the vehicle. Chief Suttles informed the Commission that Fire Chief Stallions was able to obtain four car radios for the Townsend Police Department. He also stated that he needed new side radios due to the fact that parts/service is being discontinued for the current radios. Another topic was Old Timers Day coming up. Chief Suttles stated that he had volunteers to cover the music block. Fire Dept Report: Chief Stallions reported that the Townsend Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in Wears Valley and that no homes were lost. He also stated that they are working on training for volunteers. He stated that he currently had 31 volunteers. Recreation: Mayor Skidmore gave a report on the TBall team. Drug Compliance: After further discussion on the Drug Compliance issue, the Commission made the decision to seek a free testing facility. Mayor Skidmore suggested that the City should try Blount Memorial first. Maintenance Report: Chief Suttles reported that there are street that need attention. Mayor Skidmore appointed Vice Mayor Palewski as the "street commissioner". Chief Suttles also reported that Spring Clean up has been scheduled for May. Building Inspector: Mayor Skidmore stated that Claude Scarborough needed to be officially hired by the City of Townsend tonight. He also mentioned that his salary needed to be set at $1000 per month and that he would keep his current gas allowance. Commissioner Tippett made the motion to hire Mr. Scarborough and Commissioner Palewski made the second. With 4 yea votes, Mr. Scarborough was hired. Misc.: Mayor Skidmore announced that the City of Townsend sign was now up on the upper end of the City. Mayor Skidmore mentioned the loan with Tennessee Bonding and suggested that we look at paying down or refinancing the loan. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
