CITY OF TOWNSEND COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES On March 18th, 2008 |

Attend: Attending the meeting were Mayor Shannon Skidmore; Commissioners Ron Palewski, Charles Tippitt and David Wietlisbach. Also, Police Chief Ron Suttles, Fire Chief Don Stallions, Gwen Jordan, Shelia Moss, Andy Morton, Janice Fillmore as well as several other community members. Pledge: Mayor Skidmore opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Ord. #234-08-1C: This was the second reading of this ordinance. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Wietlisbach and a second was made by Commissioner Tippett. The vote was 3 yea's and 1 abstain. Resolution #231-08-1C: This resolution for an Election Call was read by Mayor Skidmore. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Palewski and a second was made by Mayor Skidmore. The vote was 4 yea's. Minutes: The minutes for the February 19, 2008 Commission Meeting was approved after one correction requested by Commissioner Tippett on the Financial Reporting. Finance Report: Recorder Gwen Jordan gave a financial review. Commissioner Tippett made a motion to approve with a change to the long sheet. Commissioner Wietlisbach seconded the motion. The vote was 4 yea's. Police Salary: The police salary comparisons presented by Chief Suttles was reviewed by the Commission. Mayor Skidmore suggested that there be a starting salary increase for Townsend Police Officer positions to be included in the next budget. No action was made at this meeting. Drug Compliance: There was some discussion regarding random drug testing between the Commission, Chief Suttles, and Chief Stallions. It was decided to pursue this matter with the attorney. Police Report: Chief Suttles introduced the new officer, Tony Rayburn. He stated that the new cruiser had been ordered. He also mentioned that he is working with Joann Webb, Alumni President, regarding storage for the Red Cross. Maintenance Report: Spring Clean up was discussed but, a specific date was not determined. Chief Suttles reported that Glen is working on cleaning up the woods and that he would be moving some stuff to create storage for the snow flake lights. He also reported that he had not heard from Bill Dunlap regarding a track hoe, which would be used to work on a tile close to Mr. Myers property. Fire Dept Report: According to Chief Stallions, fire calls were up and medical calls were down. He announced that the Fire Dept was expanding and discussed the location of the donated five acres. Library Report: The Library report was read by Commissioner Wietlisbach. Mayor Skidmore requested that Commissioner Tippett have someone from the Library in attendance to present future reports. Andy Morton: Mr. Morton announced he is willing to donate his services to measure the current municipal building and draw preliminary renovation plans. There was discussion between the Commission, some attendee's and Mr. Morton. The Commission approved to proceed with preliminary plans. Recreation: Mayor Skidmore announced that the TBall team has their first game on April 5th 2008. He stated that the team consists of twenty boys. Misc.: Janice Fillmore reported on signage. There was discussion between Janice and the Commission regarding the signs. There was also discussion regarding beer sales/permits for the upcoming motorcycle rally.
